ECOHS envisages contributing to a nation with sufficient numbers of adequately trained health care providers of Christian background to provide quality health care through qualified staff in a and conductive environment.
Mission
ECOHS exists to provide high quality health care training programmes under the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia through teaching, learning and assessment of health care providers within Christian Principles and Professional Ethics.
Philosophy of the college
The College holds a Christian philosophy of life and expects all members of staff and students to conduct themselves in accordance with the tenets of the philosophy as part of the affirmations of the C.C.A.P. Synod of Livingstonia. The college believes that;
Love and Service go hand in hand with theoretical and practical knowledge and each person will be encouraged to develop his/her work with God during his/her time at the College and to witness his/her faith through his/her work.
Human Being is a unique bio-psychosocial and spiritual being and as such has to be treated with dignity irrespective of race, colour, creed, sex, age or social status. He/She is a creation of God and is capable of making own decisions and carrying out self-care activities. He/she should always receive individualized and holistic care.
Environment is both the internal and external surrounding of human beings and provides the necessary resources for growth and development. Environment constantly changes and has an influence over individual’s behavior and health. The College will provide conducive environment to enhance learning, and spiritual growth. Within any environment there is communication and interaction between and among individuals, families, groups and communities.
Health is the state of physical, mental, spiritual and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. A conducive environment, free from health hazards is necessary to achieve optimum health.
Learning is a continuous process of acquiring knowledge, skill and attitude pertaining to nursing/midwifery through the guidance of the nurse educator and active participation of the learner.
A Learner is a unique individual with past experiences and needs, which should be respected. He/She has different capabilities which should be taken into consideration if the teaching/learning process is to be effective. He/She has responsibility for his/her own learning and self-development through active participation. The learner should be provided with an environment conducive to learning. In addition, a learner who is inspired with the Word of God will be able to treat patients and clients with love and dignity.
